Sri Lankan police to make arrests based on information revealed by drug kingpin within a week

The Sri Lanka Police plan to make arrests based on names and details provided to the police by alleged drug kingpin Gampola Vidanalage Samantha Kumara alias Wele Suda in seven days.Reports have so far stated that Wele Suda has revealed the names of over 30 persons allegedly involved in the drug racket in the country including a Colombo District parliamentarian and a former Inspector General of Police.

The suspect has told the CID that he had paid Rs. 2.5 million a month to the Colombo District UPFA MP as commission. The UPFA MP has helped the suspect to clear the drugs through Customs and distribute it around Colombo and other areas.


Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said the police will be carrying out investigations into the persons revealed by Wele Suda in the next few days.
He said that arrests on the details revealed by Wele Suda therefore will be carried out in seven days.
Meanwhile, the Colombo High Court has requested the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to present Wele Suda before courts on the 5th of this month.(colombopage)
